Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF). A concept providing the conclusion or recommendation first, followed by an explanation or analysis leading the reader or listener through the logic leading to the conclusion or recommendation. Example: The BLUF is we will initiate movement at 0900 hours (9:00am).
Bounce. The deliberate effort between multiple people or organizations to remove any conflicts between the multiple people or organizations; thereby, increasing the overall chances of success. Example: We need for delivery trucks at our location tomorrow at 0900 hours (9:00am). Bounce that off the motorpool to make sure the trucks are available.
80% Solution (Pareto Principle). It only takes 20% of the total information needed to create 80% of the final solution and 80% is good enough to get started. Conversely, the remaining 80% of the total information will only yield the final 20% of the solution.
Desired Endstate. A working definition of what the operating environment should look like. It is a visualization, focusing on the conditions we want to create in order to be successful.
Don’t Get Bent. A cautionary advisory the subject matter under discussion is outside your influence or control. The matter is for your information (FYI) only. Example: we will be moving headquarters to a new location in two hours. Don’t get bent – start packing.
Essence of the Corn. The organic value of an Unpopped Colonels introspective thought described or conjured during the recording of any podcast episode.
Experiential. involving or based on one’s own experiences and observations. “…based on my own experiences, this is what I conclude…”
Information. A continually evolving conveyance or representation by an arrangement or sequence of data (facts). It is a deliberate interpretation within a set of controls.
Leave Them Thinking for Themselves. The desired endstate of any Unpopped Colonels Podcast episode. It’s not our place to tell our listeners how to think, or how to answer a question. We simply want to present our takes on different topics, providing our listeners with a foundation for further contemplation or research.
Liberatory. To set free from control by others. “I’m freeeeeeeeeee!”
Revelatory. Revealing something hitherto unknown. “What? I had no idea!”
Unity of Effort. The state of harmonizing efforts among multiple organizations working towards a similar desired endstate. In theory, this prevents organizations from operating in conflict with each other and it reduces duplication of effort – in other words, more efficient productivity. Example: The document is due in three (3) days. This means the writer(s), editor(s), signer(s), and copier(s) will bounce their calendars so we make the deadline.
